DAWN COMMISSION FACILITATES THE MEETING OF SOUTHWEST NIGERIA STATISTICIANS-GENERAL TOWARDS DOMESTICATING SDG INDICATORS FOR EFFECTIVE MONITORING

DAWN Commission on Thursday 16th September 2021 held the meeting of Southwest Nigeria Statisticians-General with the key objective of intimating the participants on the planned workshop of the region’s data managers.
The meeting was facilitated by the Director General of DAWN Commission, Mr. Seye OYELEYE and the Head of the Data Team, Dr. Bamidele Adedeji. Also present at the meeting were the six Statisticians-General in the Region.
The welcome address was delivered by the Commission’s Head of Programmes, Mr. Abiodun Oladipo. The DG, Mr. Seye Oyeleye gave the opening remarks where he reiterated the importance of data for development. He also emphasised the importance of the Bureaus of statistics in the region and how essential they are in effectively coordinating the Region’s data space.
In his presentation, Mr. Olalekan Ibikunle of DAWN Commission discussed the goal of the workshop which is “to facilitate the creation of a harmonised data management system that will enable the production, assemblage, warehousing, analysis and broadcast of statistical information for the sustainable development of the Southwest Region of Nigeria”. He also discussed the specific objectives of the workshop after which he shared a sample disaggregated data template that will be used during the workshop.
The meeting came to a close after taking comments from the participants.
